IRCC policy states that if you completed an Immigration Medical Exam (IME) within the last 5 years, you can include that exam's IME or Unique Medical Identifier (UMI) number with your PR application instead of doing a new one, and IRCC will process your application using the existing results.
What group members reported:- It's not guaranteed for everyone. IRCC can still request a fresh medical exam at their discretion, even if your previous one is within the 5-year window — the exemption is a general rule, not an absolute guarantee.
- Reusing an old exam has worked in practice. One member successfully reused the medical exam they completed for their study permit in 2021 when they later applied for PR, with no request for a new one.
The safest approach: submit your existing IME/UMI number with your application per the policy, but be prepared for the possibility that IRCC may still issue a re-medical request depending on your individual file.
