What documents to upload for the 50-point Job Offer section in your Express Entry application

Documents Needed

  • LMIA letter (or LMIA-exempt Work Permit)

Required to actually claim the 50 CRS points for a job offer — without one of these, the points can't be claimed.

  • Offer letter / initial employment contract

The base document the work permit was issued on.

  • Work permit copy

Uploaded alongside the offer letter and LMIA in the offer-of-employment section.

Step-by-Step

If you have an ITA and are claiming 50 CRS points for a valid job offer, group members clarified what actually needs to go into the "offer of employment" section of your application.

What group members advised:
  1. Confirm you actually have an LMIA (or LMIA-exempt work permit). Without an LMIA letter, an LMIA-based work permit, or an LMIA-exempt work permit, you cannot claim the 50 points for a job offer — a plain offer/employment letter on its own isn't sufficient to claim the points.

  2. Bundle the supporting documents together in the offer-of-employment section: the offer letter, the initial employment contract (the one the work permit was based on), the LMIA, and the work permit itself.

  3. On formatting questions like whether an experience letter can be e-signed, members didn't give a definitive answer — when in doubt, check IRCC's current document requirements directly, since signature requirements can change.

Make sure the offer of employment and the general employment/experience sections aren't left blank just because you already uploaded the offer letter elsewhere — both sections typically expect supporting documents.

Dos, Don'ts & Tips

  • Don't: Don't assume a basic offer letter alone qualifies you for the 50-point job offer claim — you need the LMIA (or LMIA exemption) tied to it.
  • Do: Upload the offer letter, initial contract, LMIA, and work permit together in the offer-of-employment section.
