For candidates unsure whether their IELTS score is enough for Express Entry / PNP eligibility, group members clarified an important point about how the minimum band requirement works.
What group members advised:- The minimum required band (commonly CLB/IELTS 6) applies to each of the four modules separately — Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening — not to your overall average score.
- Scoring below the minimum in even one module means you don't meet the requirement, even if your overall average across all four is at or above the threshold.
If your scores are uneven across modules (for example strong in Listening but weaker in Reading or Speaking), it's often worth retaking the test focused on shoring up the weakest module rather than relying on a good overall average.
