If you're an inland PR applicant awaiting your PPR (Passport Request/Portal notification) but you're currently outside Canada on a trip, here's how the process generally works, based on group members' experience.
What group members advised:- If your Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is still valid, the simplest path is to travel back to Canada on that TRV before your PR decision is finalized, rather than trying to arrange something special with IRCC while abroad.
- Once you receive your COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence), that's the point at which you'd apply for a PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document) to travel back to Canada, if you don't already have a valid way to enter.
- You can inform IRCC that you're currently outside Canada, but based on shared experiences, the practical sequence is: get your PPR/COPR issued → apply for PRTD → travel back and complete landing formalities.
Because individual case handling can vary, if your TRV has expired or is about to, or if your COPR is delayed while you're abroad, it's worth reaching out to IRCC directly through the webform to clarify your specific situation rather than assuming a default outcome.
