If you receive a refusal letter that doesn't spell out the officer's specific concerns, you can't fully judge whether reconsideration is worth pursuing without more detail.
What the group suggested:- Generic refusal letters are common. A short, vague letter doesn't necessarily mean the refusal was accidental or unusual — many refusals are worded this way regardless of the underlying reason.
- Request your CAIPS (or GCMS) notes to see the actual internal notes the officer made about your file. This is the standard way to learn the real basis for a refusal when the letter itself doesn't say.
- Expect a long wait. Group members reported these requests taking around 2-3 months to be answered, and related requests (like CBSA records) can take even longer.
Only after seeing the notes can you judge whether the refusal was based on a misunderstanding of your file (worth a reconsideration request) or a substantive concern (which may need a fresh application addressing that specific issue instead).
