A new PR shared their soft-landing experience at Toronto Pearson, and the replies filled in practical details:
- The process can be quick. Touchdown to customs clearance took 25–30 minutes (an 11 AM arrival — the poster credited the time of day for short queues).
- Expect the standard CoPR questions. The immigration officer asked the questions listed on the CoPR itself, plus the Canadian mailing address where the PR card should be sent. No extra documents were requested.
- Photos: the officer takes/attaches one photograph to the CoPR; the second copy stays with you.
- Goods to follow. The officer asked whether any goods would follow later. If you plan to ship belongings after landing, bring an itemized goods-to-follow list; the poster had none and simply said so.
- Pre-arrival app requirements changed mid-thread. Members noted the mandatory pre-arrival submission (the ArriveCan requirement) was dropped as of October 1 (2022), though airlines were still sometimes asking for it — 'better fill it, hardly takes 5 mins' was the era's advice. Historical note: ArriveCan and COVID test requirements no longer apply; check current CBSA guidance before flying.
