For new PRs who have landed but haven't received their physical PR card after several months:
- Know the general rule of thumb: if you haven't received your card within about 180 days (roughly 6 months) of your application/landing, IRCC's own guidance suggests you should follow up or reapply rather than keep waiting indefinitely.
- Confirm your PR card application is linked to your online CIC/IRCC account. If it is linked, check the status: if it shows the card was 'dispatched' but you never received it, the most likely explanation is that it was lost in the mail.
- If your card was dispatched but lost, you generally have two paths: request a replacement/reissue through your online account, or submit a paper-based reapplication if the online option isn't available to you — one poster who waited 8 months went the paper-application route themselves.
- Expect the follow-up process to also take time — the poster who reapplied on paper hadn't heard back three weeks later, so plan for this to be a multi-week process, not an instant fix.
This is historical/anecdotal guidance based on group members' experience — always check the current IRCC processing times and instructions on ircc.canada.ca before deciding whether to wait, request a reissue, or reapply.
