For candidates with a CRS score in the 350–400 range who have no job offer or family ties in Canada:
- Look at provinces with newer or less crowded streams first. At the time of this thread, Newfoundland and Labrador had recently opened a priority-skills stream — provinces regularly open new or express-style streams, so check each PNP's current occupation-in-demand list rather than assuming only Ontario/BC apply to you.
- Don't rely on a consultancy to hand you a shortcut. One applicant in this thread described starting from scratch after being let down by an uninformed consultant, then doing their own research into how each CRS factor is scored.
- Systematically raise your CRS factors rather than waiting for a lower cutoff. The same applicant reported moving from a 360 to a 470+ range by working on the factors within their control — commonly this means a higher IELTS/CLB band, a spouse's language score or education, additional work experience, or a second language.
- Once your score is competitive, target PNP nomination directly (which adds 600 points) rather than waiting on general draws — this was the path that eventually led to an ITA in this case.
CRS cutoffs and provincial streams change frequently, so always confirm current stream eligibility and requirements directly on each province's immigration website before applying.
