OINP portal forces an 'Arranged Employment' document upload even when applying via Human Capital Priority (no LMIA)

Documents Needed

  • Current job offer/offer letter

Can be uploaded to satisfy the portal's mandatory upload field even when arranged employment (LMIA) isn't actually applicable to your stream.

Step-by-Step

A candidate applying under OINP's Human Capital Priority stream (Canadian Experience Class based, no LMIA involved) hit a portal error requiring an "Arranged Employment" document upload — a field that's supposed to be optional/only mandatory for LMIA-based applicants — with limited days left before the submission deadline.

Two practical workarounds members suggested:

  1. Upload your current job offer or offer letter in that field, even though your application isn't actually LMIA-based — one member did exactly this while also applying under CEC OINP and it did not cause an issue.

  2. If you don't have a suitable document, upload any relevant document and add a note/comment that it's not applicable, just to get past the mandatory-field portal error.

Both approaches are workarounds for what appears to be a portal validation bug rather than an actual document requirement for the Human Capital Priority stream — if you have time before your deadline, it may also be worth contacting OINP support to flag the error, but given tight deadlines, members' practical fix was simply to satisfy the upload field.

Dos, Don'ts & Tips

  • Tip: If a portal forces a mandatory upload for a field that shouldn't apply to your stream, upload your current offer letter or another relevant document with a note that it's not applicable, rather than being blocked from submitting.
  • Do: Keep a screenshot of the error and your workaround in case OINP later asks why an arranged-employment-style document is in a Human Capital Priority file.
