For applicants who receive an IRCC email but see no corresponding update or message in their online portal:
- Recognize this may be a standard mass email, not an individual update. IRCC sends a routine notice to all applicants approaching the one-year mark since their AOR, often related to medical exam validity — this doesn't necessarily mean anything has changed on your specific file.
- Check whether your medical exam is expiring soon. If your upfront medicals were done close to a year ago, this reminder is likely tied to that, prompting you to watch for a possible request to redo medicals.
- Rule out a portal outage before assuming something is wrong. IRCC's system occasionally goes down; if you check your portal on the same day as receiving the notice and see no update, the server itself may simply be unavailable rather than there being missing information on your file.
If you see 'application status unavailable' with no new message after such an email, first check your medical exam timeline, then try the portal again later before concluding anything has gone wrong.
