Historical note: this thread uses the old NOC 2016 code (2171) and 2022-era draw behaviour; NOC 2021 replaced these codes (2171 maps to 21221/21211-family codes) and provincial lists change — verify current stream requirements.
A candidate asked which provinces had demand for NOC 2171 (information systems analysts and consultants). Members' picture:
- BC and Ontario led demand. 2171 spans many roles (systems engineer, infrastructure engineer, IT consultant), and members flagged British Columbia and Ontario as the strongest markets.
- BC PNP Tech included 2171 — but with a job offer requirement. The stream offered priority processing for listed tech occupations, and 2171 was on the list; the catch members stressed is that BC requires a qualifying job offer from a BC employer to apply.
- Ontario's tech draws worked without a job offer (targeted OINP draws from the Express Entry pool), which members implied by contrasting it with BC's requirement.
- If your duties straddle codes, pick carefully. One member advised choosing the NOC whose listed duties genuinely match your job description — and noted that if your code isn't on a province's list, waiting or re-mapping to an adjacent in-list code (honestly, based on real duties) are the options.
Strategy for tech applicants: target Ontario draws passively from the pool, and pursue BC only alongside an active BC job search.
