If a previous study permit application used a GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) dated from an earlier year, and you're reapplying, group members noted the following.
What group members said:- A GIC certificate does not have an expiry date in the same way other documents do, so an older certificate can generally still be used to support a new application — as long as the funds and account remain valid and accessible.
- Make sure the document is actually a GIC certificate and not a remittance/transfer receipt — these are different documents, and visa officers will look for the specific GIC certificate issued by the bank, not proof that money was sent.
Before resubmitting, double check with your bank that the GIC account is still active and get an updated confirmation letter if possible, since IRCC officers may still want to see current standing even if the original certificate has no formal expiry.
