Under the Student Direct Stream (SDS), a sponsor affidavit is
not a mandatory document. If you've already paid the GIC and one year of tuition, you can submit your application with just those two proofs of funds rather than also including bank statements or a future sponsor's affidavit.
What group members advised:- A sponsor affidavit isn't compulsory for SDS — the GIC plus one year's fee receipt already satisfies the core financial requirement.
- Address the remaining years' funding in your Statement of Purpose (SOP) instead of extra financial documents. Add a short paragraph under a "finances" heading explaining how you (or your household) will cover tuition and living costs for the later years of a multi-year program (e.g., a 16-month course), even if you're not attaching separate proof for it.
- This approach relies on your SOP reading as coherent and credible — vague or unsupported claims about future funding can still raise questions, so keep the explanation specific (income source, savings plan, etc.) even though no separate document is required.
In short: GIC + one year's fee is enough to submit under SDS; use the SOP, not extra bank statements, to speak to how you'll fund the rest of the program.
