An applicant whose passport expires in a couple of years worried about renewing it mid-application, since every document already carries the current passport number. Members converged on a calm answer:
- You likely can't renew yet anyway. Indian passports can generally only be renewed within about a year (roughly 365 days) of expiry — one member who faced the same situation confirmed this, and another added the same rule, noting an exception when details like your address change. With ~3 years of validity left, you continue with the current passport by default.
- Renewal is not something to stress over. A member pointed out that updating a passport is quick when the time comes — you renew, then simply inform IRCC / update your file with the new passport details.
- Your in-progress application stands. Nothing in the thread suggested a passport with a few years' validity causes problems for a study permit application; the documents referencing the current passport number remain fine.
