- Order GCMS notes first — don't reapply blind. The refusal letter's stock language isn't the real reason. Members said to request GCMS notes right away (they can take around 40 days) so the new application addresses the officer's exact concerns. Rushing a near-identical file back in invites the same result.
- Inform your college immediately. Two reasons from the thread: a full fee refund typically requires notifying the institution of the visa refusal, and you can ask to defer the intake (September → January) instead of losing the seat.
- Reapply only once you can answer the refusal. "Address it appropriately... don't be in a rush" was the thread's summary — fix the identified weakness, then submit.
- Set realistic timing expectations. Asked whether a fresh application could be decided "in a month or so," members pointed to IRCC's official processing-times page, which is updated with backlogs — there's no guaranteed fast turnaround.
