A common misconception is that a study permit SOP has to convince the officer you'll leave Canada forever after finishing your studies. Group clarification:
- IRCC does not require you to prove you'll never seek further status in Canada. What actually matters is that you comply with the conditions of your current permit and maintain valid legal status throughout — whether that continues as a study permit, then a work permit, and potentially PR later.
- The SOP's real purpose is to show genuine study intent — that you're applying to study for legitimate educational/career reasons, not primarily to bypass typical immigration processes.
- PR is never guaranteed, no matter your profile. Plans change, and pursuing PR eventually is a normal, common, and legal path — it isn't something you need to hide or deny in your SOP, but the SOP should focus on your genuine intent to study and the value of the program to your goals.
In short: write your SOP to show real academic/career purpose and an intent to follow your permit's rules — not to make an implausible claim that you have no interest in ever staying longer in Canada.
