If a family health emergency means you need to step back from your studies, consider your options before fully withdrawing:
- Talk to your program coordinator first. Many schools can accommodate an official semester break or leave of absence for exactly this kind of situation, rather than requiring a full withdrawal.
- If you haven't started yet, ask about deferring your start date citing the family circumstance, instead of cancelling your acceptance and study permit outright.
- A documented, approved leave or deferral is generally viewed more favorably than an outright withdrawal, since it shows continuity of intent to study rather than an unexplained gap.
- If you do withdraw and want to study again later, expect to demonstrate the same eligibility (funds, acceptance, ties to home country) as a fresh application, and be ready to explain the earlier withdrawal in your file.
