My question is Can he travel alone with the COPR he received or does he have to inform IRCC about his marriage before travelling? Or he can inform after landing? He has to ket IRCC know about the marriage. Otherwise, he is looking at getting possible ban to enter Canada for no misrepresentation.

It completely depends on you. If he comes without adding spouse to application, the process will be lot slower.
